First of all, let me just say that I freakin' love this video. I'm a big Michael Wilbon guy. There's a lot of people out there who think Wilbon's a puttz. I am not one of them. I think no one knows what they're talking about more than Wilbon. And he's also a fellow Chicagoan and Bulls fan...if you watch ESPN, that goes without saying. This video is a little behind the scenes look at some back and forth between Wilbon and notorious Bulls hater Jon Barry (at least in my mind). Wilbon drops some truth in this video.
First, the rise of Taj. Something I've been saying since day 1. Taj Gibson can flat out play basketball and has the fundamentals and skill level to be life long starter in this league, if not a star. Wilbon agrees 100%, as he states that Gibson is a better player than Tyrus Thomas. He likens the Thomas trade to how the Bulls traded Oakley to make room for Horace Grant. I love the Horace Grant comparison, because Horace did a lot of the same things I expect Taj will do as his career progresses.
Second, I 100% agree with his statement that there's no logical reason why LeBron would want to go anywhere other than Chicago based on the talent that is currently present. Jon Barry either agrees, or was scared to disagree with Wilbon. Barry coyly said that "the Knicks are definitely not better for LeBron" and the video ended with Barry saying "with a core of Rose, Noah, and Gibson." I guess Deng is chopped liver? But either way, if Gibson is starting to be taken seriously, then the Bulls have to look that much more attractive with those 4 in place. Although, I assume there are other factors that will influence LeBron's decision, and I'd imagine some of them are personal, such as wanting to stay close to his hometown, etc. But basketball-wise, Chicago has to be it. I don't think it's gonna happen, but me and Wilbon are just sayin'...
Third, if Wilbon says it's true...then you know it's true. If you've disagreed with me about any of these statements in the past, now that Wilbon has confirmed them, I won't hold it against you if you flip-flop. FLIP-FLOPPER.
